Potential Benefits of HSR and ECRL to the people living nearby

Task : Potential Benefits of HSR and ECRL to the people living nearby

1. The Benefits of HSR

What is HSR ? For information, in 2010, the Malaysian Government launched the Economic Transformation Programme ( ETP ) with the objective of transforming the country into a high-income nation by the year 2020. Under the Greater Kuala Lumpur/ Klang Valley National Key Economic Area ( NKEA ) component of the ETP is the Southern Corridor High Speed Rail Project, popularly known  as the HSR project.

The initiative is one of the Entry Point Projects ( EPPs ) that aims to improve both the economic dynamism of Malaysia's capital city as well as its liveability rankings relatives to other global cities. The 330 KM journey- which includes five transit stops will take a mere 90 minutes ( for express ) and promises to bring great economic benefit to Malaysians. HSR connect Malaysia to Singapore. So,what are the benefits ?

The first advantage of the high-speed rail project is likely to be regarding skills transfer.Singapore does not have high-speed rail technology experience, hence; this project will pave the way for an opportunity to build expertise. It will develop manpower in the sector and set a foundation for the development of the technology.

Another essential benefit of the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High-Speed Rail to Malaysia is the direct job opportunities it will present. From the construction till the operations, many Malaysians will be directly involved in various capacity and manpower. Also, This will result to the upspringing of business opportunities around Jurong East terminus in diverse sectors including tourism, hospitality, retail, logistics and much more.

Finally, business activities will begin to overflow into Malaysia from Singapore. Shopping malls and other business properties will start to spring up in other towns in places close to the train routes in Malaysia, especially, Johor. This will increase the growth rate of Johor and the property sector too. Many Singaporeans already live in Johor but, more will begin to own and develop resources.

2. The Benefits of ECRL

ECRL is the rail line that cover around 600 Km will begin at Port Klang in Selangor and snake through Kuala Lumpur towards Bentong, Mentakab and Kuantan in Pahang, and then to Terengganu's Kemaman, Kertih and Kuala Terengganu, before proceeding to Kota Baru and ending in Tumpat, Kelantan. This project get the cooperation with China which is China will build and provide financing for Malaysia’s East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), a RM55 billion (S$18.3 billion) rail project spanning four states, said a senior Malaysian official on Monday (31 Oct 2016), as Prime Minister Najib Razak arrived in Beijing for a week-long visit.

The ECRL has a big potential to unlock value for cities along the alignment, boosting tourism and industrial activities.
A rail link which will finally connect ports on the east coast with Malaysia's largest port in Port Klang on the west coast will be a game-changer and offer unique logistic and transportation advantages. This is the vision of the Prime Minister for the rakyat in the east coast states of peninsular Malaysia.

Development of these new growth areas in Malaysia's eastern corridor will help increase income levels and uplift the standard of living in these areas in order to narrow the development gap with the western corridor of peninsular Malaysia.

The ECRL project will act as stimulus for the construction sector and when completed, it will form part of the Pan-Asia railway network that will boost connectivity with ASEAN, Asian and European countries that will greatly boost international trade for Malaysia.

This ECRL project will contribute as much as an additional 1.5% GDP annual growth on average to the East Coast Region over the next 50 years where the main beneficiaries would be the rural and semi-rural rakyat of the East coast states.Due to its many economic and development benefits, the government will ensure that this project will be successfully implemented as one of the key initiatives by the Prime Minister towards a balanced, developed, and high-income Malaysia.

As conclusion, we can conclude that HSR is the railway that build between Malaysia-Singapore while ECRL is the rail line build from Kuala Lumpur-Tumpat in Malaysia.

MOHAMMAD TAJUDDIN BIN ABDUL RAUF

Task :   What are the Malaysia government initiatives that has been in place to increase the economic and income per capita

Nowadays, countries all over the world striving become a good nation towards its people. Every people anywhere hope their government to do the best job caring their welfare, life, social needs and so on. In Malaysia, we have good administrative and our performance is one of the best among countries in Asian. There are many government initiatives that has been in place in order to increase economic and income per capita.

First and foremost, a initiative that took place is the implemention of Klinik 1Malaysia, Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia, Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia and Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia. As we know, since our 6th Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak took the Malaysia government with his cabinet, he was introducing ‘1Malaysia’ slogan. With his new slogan for Malaysian, he made many programmes under this slogan. This programmes provide many benefits to the people. We take one example from above like Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia or BRIM. Definitely, BRIM programmes is very important in order to increase income per capita of people because the person who receive the money are majority of the people who have a little income in their occupation. So, this is a initiative that government give to the Malaysian.

Secondly, on 14 April 2013, Dato’ Seri Najib as Prime Minister of Malaysia has launching officially the biggest Bus Station in Malaysia namely ‘Terminal Bersepadu Selatan’. It is located at Bandar Tasik Selatan near Kuala Lumpur. TBS is bus terminal which was built to relieve the heavily congested Pudu Sentral Bus Station. It has 60 bus platforms, 150 taxi bays and 1000 parkings lot. Many benefits of TBS to the people because it is providing transportation from one state to another state. Besides, TBS also have KLIA Transit, KTM and Monorail. Wherever people want to go like to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Kuala Lumpur City or other places, TBS is the best place because its location is very strategic. This facility also give many benefit for the students. We can see TBS is nearly with UPM only one station to Serdang station by KTM. So, this is one of government initiatives that increase economic of Malaysia because it is providing facility to the workers, students go to their workplace and indirectly it is actually give productivity to the economic.

Besides, under the administration of Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, he was presenting ‘Rancangan Malaysia Ke-11’ in the parliament of Malaysia. Under RMK 11 planning, so many initiative provided to the people. Initially, we should know that RMK-11 was creating by Economic Planner Unit (EPU). Under this programme, one of the strategy that took place is focus on 40 percent low income group (B40). This group have 2.7 million households so that government will trying to increase their income per capita from RM 2500 per month in 2014 towards RM 5000 per month in 2020 as targeted by government. This purpose planning is to help B40 handling high cost of living nowadays and they should give skills, education and so on in order to contribute productivity to the nation. Other than that, RMK-11 also is focusing on ‘Orang Kelainan Upaya’ (OKU). According to the statistic today, not more than 4000 OKU working in the public sector. So as the initiative of RMK-11, government targeting at least 16 000 OKU will have their job in private sector in the future year. These is what government did to increase income per capita of every single people of Malaysia.

Lastly, on 23 Oktober 2009 in the parliament of Malaysia when Dato’ Seri Najib presenting 2010 badget, he was announce that government allocated RM 899 million towards tourism sector. Under this allocation of budget, Malaysia will become a popular country which attract more tourists from all over the world such as China, United Kingdom, Japan, India and so on. Malaysia also providing more eco-tourism, hotel and homestay in order to increase the quality of facilities for the tourists. Moreover, Malaysia government will assure that local worker should take place to give their effort towards tourism and government also will using social network optimally to promote tourists visit Malaysia. And final government strategy is continuing and increasing many activities such as KL Grand Prix Fest, Pesta Air Nasional, LIMA, Malaysia International Golf Exhibition and so on. So this is the evidence that our government provide many initiatives especially on tourism because we all know that tourism is one of the important income to the country that increase economic of the Malaysia.

For conclusion, we all Malaysian are very lucky and should be proud and thankful because Malaysia government already did many initiatives to increase economic and income per capita.
